{"id":980,"date":"2017-07-13T12:03:32","date_gmt":"2017-07-13T12:03:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/epwgas.wpengine.com\/?p=980"},"modified":"2017-07-13T12:48:01","modified_gmt":"2017-07-13T12:48:01","slug":"wgas-statement-campaing-george-soros-hungary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ep-wgas.eu\/2017\/07\/13\/wgas-statement-campaing-george-soros-hungary\/","title":{"rendered":"WGAS Statement on the campaing against George Soros in Hungary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The recent political campaign by the Hungarian Government against George Soros utilized motifs with a very problematic anti-Semitic past, including the image of a shadowy puppeteer pulling the strings of politicians.<\/p>\n<p>The European Parliament Working Group on Antisemitism (WGAS) would like to draw attention to the IHRA working definition of antisemitism, which lists one of the contemporary examples of antisemitism\u00a0as\u00a0\u201c<em>Making mendacious, dehumanizing, demonizing, or stereotypical allegations about Jews as such or the power of Jews as collective \u2014 such as, especially but not exclusively, the myth about a world Jewish conspiracy or of Jews controlling the media, economy, government or other societal institutions.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We urge the Hungarian\u00a0Government, and all parties and organizations in Hungary, and elsewhere, to be far more vigilant that their political posters can in no way be perceived as targeting an individual because of his Jewish background or the Jewish community in general.<\/p>\n<p>Such display of hate can incite\u00a0to\u00a0violence and\u00a0stands in contradiction\u00a0to the values of the European Union.
